Description

  • Copper is a living material. It develops character unlike almost any other material. Its surface changes with use, environment, touch, and time. For makers and owners of fine copper sinks, preserving that character while properly protecting the metal requires more than a generic polish.
At Von Schneider, we developed our micro-crystalline wax polish for craftspeople who work with materials intended to last for generations. Our formula is used throughout our own workshop on metal, wood, leather, and stone surfaces where long-term protection, finish clarity, and material preservation matter.
For copper sinks, range hoods, countertops, fixtures, and decorative metalwork, Von Schneider Wax creates a durable protective barrier that helps shield the surface from moisture, fingerprints, oxidation, staining, and daily handling while allowing the natural beauty of the copper to remain.
Unlike many conventional waxes and harsh metal treatments, our micro-crystalline wax is pH neutral and non-acidic, making it exceptionally well suited for sensitive metal surfaces and specialty finishes.

Why Micro-Crystalline Wax Is Ideal for Copper

Copper is a living material. Exposure to water, air, oils, salts, and acidic substances continuously affects its surface. While many customers appreciate the evolving patina of copper, uncontrolled oxidation, spotting, and moisture exposure can quickly become uneven or excessive without proper protection.
Micro-crystalline wax provides an ultra-thin, invisible barrier between the metal and the environment. The result is protection without permanently sealing or coating the copper in heavy synthetic finishes.
Von Schneider Wax helps maintain the depth and richness of copper while preserving the tactile feel and authentic appearance that make real copper desirable in the first place.

Benefits for Copper Sinks & Architectural Copper

    • pH neutral and non-acidic
    • Safe for copper, brass, bronze, and other sensitive metals
    • Helps protect against water spotting and moisture exposure
    • Reduces fingerprints and handling marks
    • Helps slow uneven oxidation and tarnishing
    • Buffs to a natural low-luster finish without greasy residue
    • Creates a smooth, dry protective surface
    • Suitable for sealed or raw metal surfaces depending on application
    • Food-safe once solvents have fully dissipated and the wax has cured
    • Helps preserve both polished and naturally patinated finishes

Why Copper Craftspeople Choose Von Schneider Wax

Not all waxes are formulated for fine metalwork.
Many products marketed toward metal protection contain aggressive cleaners, silicones, acidic compounds, or oily residues that can interfere with natural patina development or leave surfaces feeling artificial.
Von Schneider Wax was developed with long-term material preservation in mind. Our modern formula emphasizes finish clarity, workability, moisture resistance, and professional-level protection.
It is trusted by furniture makers, metalworkers, restorers, preservation specialists, bladesmiths, and craftspeople who require reliable protection for heirloom-quality materials.
Von Schneider wax is proudly made in the USA.

Recommended Use for Copper Sinks

  1. Ensure the surface is clean and fully dry
  2. Using a soft lint-free cloth, apply a very thin coat of wax
  3. Work evenly across the surface in light circular motions
  4. Allow the wax to haze lightly for a short period
  5. Buff thoroughly with a clean cloth until the surface feels smooth and dry

A thin application is all that is needed. Excess wax should always be buffed away completely. Layers of wax can be built on top of each other if desired.

For kitchen sinks and food-contact surfaces, allow adequate time for carrier solvents to fully dissipate after application before returning the surface to service.

Best Practices for Long-Term Copper Care

  • Avoid harsh acidic cleaners and abrasive scrubbing pads
  • Wipe standing water from the sink when possible
  • Reapply wax periodically in high-use areas
  • Use wax as part of a broader maintenance routine to help maintain consistency of finish and patina
  • For living finishes, wax can help guide a more controlled and refined aging process over time

Copper is one of the few materials that becomes more beautiful through age and use. Properly protected, it develops depth, warmth, and character that synthetic materials simply cannot replicate.
